 Plant Type Herbaceous Perennials 
 Description  The perennial lobelias listed below all prefer a moisture-retentive soil and sun or semi-shade—they are often seen growing by ponds or streams, however the ground should not be waterlogged, particularly in winter.
 
 Varieties cardinalis 'Bees' Flame' - spikes of large bright scarlet flowers above beetroot red foliage. Ht.30".
laxiflora var. angustifolia - fine green leaves and lots of individual flowers, orange with yellow lips to the tube, all summer long. Will need protection in colder areas of the country but worth the trouble. Ht.18”.
siphilitica - spikes of soft purple-blue flowers. Very hardy. May self seed. Ht.3ft.
x speciosa 'Cherry Ripe' - rosettes of apple green leaves and spikes of cherry red flowers. Not often seen but well worth planting. Hardy and reliable. Ht.30".
x spec. ‘Dark Crusader’ - rich dark red flowers over dark red and green foliage. Ht.30”.
x spec. 'Fan Burgundy' - as the name suggests, spikes of rich burgundy-coloured flowers. Ht.30"
x spec. ‘Russian Princess’ - reddish-purple flowers over dark red foliage. Ht.2ft.
x spec. ‘Tania’ - crimson-purple flowers over reddish foliage. One of the hardiest. Ht.3ft.
x spec. 'Vedrariensis' - violet-purple flowers, green suffused red leaves. Ht.3ft.
